Communion FAQs

HOLY COMMUNION LITURGY

Leader: The Lord be with you.

Everyone: And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

Everyone: We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Everyone: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The Lord’s Prayer: we invite you to pray in whatever is your heart and home language

Our [Creator], who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kin-dom come, thou will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kin-dom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

WHO CAN TAKE COMMUNION?

Anyone who wants to encounter the love of God! You don't have to be a member of this church or any church to receive communion. Our communion table doesn't belong to the pastors or staff or Neighborhood Church or The United Methodist Church. It belongs to Jesus Christ who invites all of us to be a part of this feast of grace. There is no age requirement for receiving communion, so our youngest friends & neighbors are also most welcome!

WHAT IF I HAVE DIETARY RESTRICTIONS OR DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL?

No problem! Our bread is free of gluten and the other top 7 allergens and we use unfermented grape juice so that there may be no barriers to people receiving this sacrament. If you have questions about the specific ingredients in our communion elements, please ask a Neighborhood Church staff person!

DO I HAVE TO TAKE COMMUNION?

Of course not! It's totally up to you! If you'd rather stay in your seat or visit the prayer wall during this time instead of taking communion, that's cool with us. You can also ask the pastors for a blessing instead of receiving communion elements if that is your preference.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT COMMUNION?
